Togean is an Indonesian island in the Gulf of Tomini, part of the Togean Archipelago. It is administratively part of the Tojo Una-Una Regency of Central Sulawesi, consisting largely of the Togean District with the Tanjung Pude village, part of the Una Una District, sitting on the western part of the island.
The Bajau people, also known as the sea gypsies, depend on nature for their livelihoods. Fishing and farming provide their main source of income and food on
the remote Togean Islands of central Sulawesi. Preserving the environment is crucial to ensure future generations have access to the same healthy living conditions and food sources.
While the Bajau people typically sell their produce to mainland buyers, they can achieve more by creating value-added products if given the proper support.
Togean Naturale works with local farmers and employs gypsy women to produce handmade coconut oil, soap, patchouli oil, body scrub, and other everyday products using locally sourced ingredients. This not only provides a newsource of income for the locals but also an opportunity for an improved lifestyle.
